Ventilation and Packaging for the Safe Transportation and Storage of Nuclear Material
NFT™ specializes in drum vents for hydrogen mitigation in nuclear material and waste containers. Our filter vents are specific to a variety of customers and project needs. We have dozens of different filter vents that allow for various hydrogen diffusivity rates, configurations, and materials that fit specific project needs. Whether a client needs a typical threaded configuration for a 55-gallon drum or a fully integrated filter that is welded into a container lid, our engineers work closely with each customer to fully customize the filter vent best suited for them.
We have filter vents that allow for monitoring of headspace gas via a septa that permits a needle to pass through without violating the filter media, in order to capture a sample and test for hydrogen and other flammable gasses. Our filter vents have been used specifically by the Department of Energy (DOE) for over 30 years, providing solutions for Transuranic (TRU) and Remote Handled Waste being processed at various DOE Weapons Complex sites across the United States, ensuring containers are safe to transport and store at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Our vents are the approved vent for all TRU waste packages designated for final storage. In addition, we engineer and manufacture nuclear material containers for storage of plutonium oxide powders and fissile materials; automated equipment for venting and characterizing waste streams; and high precision manufacturing capabilities that allow us to create the specialized filter vents, containers, and semi-robotic drum venting equipment.
